Purple Spots

I have bruises all over my arms and torso after my first ever Paintball Skirmish on Saturday. Daniel had bought ten tickets for the event over half a year ago and we only decided to go at the last minute, a day before the tickets were to expire. Thankfully we managed to have 9 people from Wollongong and Sydney to join us.

The Paintball Skirmish was located in East Kurrajong, about 80km north-west of Sydney. We had directions from www.whereis.com.au but at about two-thirds of our way, the directions didn't quite seem to make sense. Thankfully, yours truly have been well trained to navigate the streets using Sydway and we arrived on time. Upon reaching the place, I was kind of nervous as I have heard horrid stories from friends who played paintball before. So nervous was I that I actually believed the paintball referee when he replied "There isn't any" in answer to my question on where the toilets were.

After signing up some forms and suiting up with military camouflage gear, we were briefed by the referee and given our paintball guns. I popped open the hopper of the gun that contained the paintballs and saw them for the first time. I was absolutely convinced that those colourful and marble-sized, candy-looking balls could't hurt me afterall. Big mistake! My first time getting shot was not once, not twice, but three times on both my arms and torso. The pain was excruciating x 3! Throughout the rest of the games, I was really playing safe, hiding most of the time behind trees and barrels. Apparently that didn't stop myself from getting shot again, and of all places, at one of the first bruises on my right arm! Check out my right arm in the photo to the left, with a splatter pretty in pink. Underneath all was, well, a splatter not-so-pretty in purple (photo right).

I reckon all of us had a blast on Saturday. Besides coming home with purple spots and aches all over my body, I did have an enjoyable time. And guess what? The paintball organisers gave ten complimentary tickets to Daniel. So, I'm pretty sure you won't hear the last of my paintball experience, not until the tickets expire in May 2007 anyway.
